What is Twitter?

 Twitter seems to be becoming a very popular source of exposure for people, but especially for business. Here I am going to focus on the business side of using Twitter and how to make money by using Twitter. For those who don’t know ( and I’m sure that is few by now), but maybe not, Twitter is what’s known as a micro blog, and your entry’s are submitted in real time. The reason Twitter is known as a micro-blog is because you can only use 140 characters at one time. The good thing is you can submit one after the other in real time. The goal with Twitter is to get as many followers as you can, because more followers means more exposure. Now, when your trying to make money with Twitter it’s a little bit different story when it comes to getting followers which I will explain in the next part of this article. Using Twitter for Promoting Your Product or Website 

When it comes to using this service for promotion it’s a whole different ball game. Some mistake people make are the same ones they make writing articles or at the forums. Spam, they just spam and don’t give anyone any value. It really isn’t hard to provide people with value. Just do something besides saying, “BUY THIS NOW!”  Another thing that’s being done is just picking people at random to follow so they will in turn follow you back. Getting followers is the key to exposure, but at the same time when your promoting your business or product you don’t want to just follow anybody. You need to pick and choose who you are going to follow, in turn getting targeted traffic. The best kind of traffic to have when running a blog, online business or promoting a product. Here are some ideas for providing value or just being interesting.

Post quotes by famous people and put your link on the end. Make sure it has to do with what your promoting. I see some people doing this and think it’s a great idea.  If your promoting a weight loss product, post a quote by a famous weight loss guru.

Post something with value, if your promoting a product that helps people make money, post tips or tricks and put your link on the end.

Or just post something about how your day is going or how you feel and put your link on the end

Retweet people. A retweet is responding to another persons post, just tell them you checked out what they made a post about and liked it, or that you agree or whatever the situation is. Flattery will get you everywhere.  People following the person you retweet will see this and most likely follow you.

You can use this service any time you want during your day ( or night) at random. If your trying to promote a business I would set at least 15 minutes aside to just Tweet (Tweet is what you do when you post something). This will help you get more exposure for the simple fact that your Tweet’s won’t be as spread out. There are a lot of people using Twitter and if your Tweets are spread to thin your not going to get the exposure necessary.

There are downfalls to Twitter, one being that you have to keep logging in if you haven’t posted for a little while. You can get around this with a tool called Tweetdeck. Just go to Tweetdeck.com and get this tool and you’ll be able to stay logged in all day, or night. This is also a free tool to use and you can also shorten your URLs with it as well. As I mentioned before, some people who just follow anybody which isn’t going to help your business unless your following the right people. There are some tools out there that will get you followers, but make sure if you run in to any of these that you can choose a category of people to be followed. You do not want to follow people uninterested in your niche. Another thing that following people outside your niche will do is lessen the chance that the people who are interested in your niche will not see your post. So that’s Twitter in a nut shell and the best way to make money with Twitter. This is just one more weapon in your promotional arsenal that you can use to monetize your business.
